 Competition Results
Saturday June 19th marked the end of another successful week
for Lower Aghada tennis. Brian and Mary Barnes, Tricia
O’Leary and Kevin Day competed in the final of the Grade 5
Mixed Doubles event in the Munster Senior Open held in
...Sundays Well. Played under brilliant sunshine Mary and Brian
made the quicker start, and with some excellent attacking
net play took the first set 6-0. Their form carried on into
the second set moving to a 5-1 lead. However, as all tennis
players know getting that last game is always difficult.
Kevin and Tricia who had been battling hard throughout
managed to stave off two match points to break Brian’s
serve, before winning the next game to move to 5-3. Mary
and Brian’s attacking style reasserted itself to finally
close out the match against their good friends and doubles
partners 6-0, 6-3. With the tennis season in full swing
Lower Aghada is in good shape, Saturday marked the 6th final
appearance for Lower Aghada players with other wins coming
for Brian and Mary in Bishopstown and James Cooney and
Tricia in Causeway.

Congratulations to all those who made the finals, and took part in the East Cork Junior Open this Sunday in Aghada. Thanks again to our Tournament Directors Jo-Anne Williamson and Cian Blake. Also a big thanks to everyone else that helped out during the event. To see the results click here.
